A Leadership Aberdeen Community Impact Project
Each year, the Leadership Aberdeen class completes a community project designed to make a meaningful and lasting impact in Aberdeen. The 2026 Leadership Aberdeen class is proud to present Heart for the Homeless, a project focused on raising awareness and support for individuals experiencing homelessness in our community.
At the center of the project is a collaborative community mural, created by nine different groups throughout Aberdeen. Each group will design and paint a section of the mural this April, symbolizing compassion, hope, and the collective commitment our community shares in caring for one another.
Before beginning their portion of the mural, participating groups will also receive education about homelessness in the Aberdeen area, helping participants better understand the challenges individuals and families face and the resources available to support them. By combining art with education, the project aims to foster greater awareness and empathy within the community.
Once completed, the mural will be displayed at the K.O. Lee Aberdeen Public Library, where it will serve as both a meaningful piece of public art and a reminder of the importance of community support. The mural display will also feature a QR code for donations to the Aberdeen Homeless Coalition.
Through Heart for the Homeless, the Leadership Aberdeen class hopes to inspire compassion, encourage conversation, and create an opportunity for the Aberdeen community to come together in support of those in need.
If you are interested in donating, scan the QR code found below and put Heart for the Homeless in the memo. You can also mail donations to the Aberdeen Area Chamber of Commerce, 516 S Main St, Aberdeen, SD 57401.
