Get Pumped, Aberdeen!

Join the 2025 Leadership Aberdeen Class and the Aberdeen Cycling Association in their effort to raise money for a pump track in Aberdeen, suitable for all ages and all wheels!

MISSION: To create a world-class, all-ages cycling experience that fosters community engagement, active lifestyles, and skill development in safe, inclusive, and innovative environment.

WHAT IS IT? A pump track is a purpose built track for cycling. It has a circuit of rollers, banked turns, and other features all designed to be used by bicyclists, skate boards and scooters. When ridden correctly, no pedaling is required, but a pumping action to maintain momentum.

OUR PURPOSE:  The Bike Hub intends to promote health, wellness, and a passion for cycling. It will provide riders with a dynamic and challenging course for recreational riding, skill development, and social connections. Through expert designs, diverse terrain features and modern amenities, the Bike Hub aims to encourage outdoor activity for all wheel warriors.

PARTNERS: The class is working with the Brown County Fair on the location which will be on fairgrounds property, along 24th Avenue Northeast. The property will be leased to the Aberdeen Cycling Association who will maintain the track and work to complete  Phase 2 and 3 of the project over the coming years. Ultimately, a pump track will be a fun, inclusive, and beneficial addition to our community, helping to promote fitness, social interaction, and a shared love for active outdoor recreation.

YOU MIGHT BE ASKING, WHY  A PUMP TRACK?

  1. Encouraging Physical Activity: A pump track provides an exciting, low-impact way to engage people of all ages in physical activity. It helps improve balance, coordination, and strength, making it ideal for both beginners and experienced riders.

  2. Community Engagement: A pump track serves as a social gathering place where people can come together, make new friends, and engage in a shared interest. It fosters a sense of community and inclusiveness, providing a positive environment for social interaction.

  3. Youth Development: For younger community members, a pump track can serve as a safe space to learn bike skills, build confidence, and stay active. It’s a great alternative to sedentary activities like video games or excessive screen time.

  4. Promoting Outdoor Recreation: A pump track encourages outdoor play and helps create a culture of outdoor recreation. This can be especially important in urban areas where access to nature or other recreational spaces might be limited.

  5. Supporting a Range of Sports: While primarily designed for cycling, pump tracks can also be used by skateboarders, rollerbladers, and scooter riders, making it a versatile space for various types of wheeled sports.

  6. Improving Local Infrastructure: Building a pump track can enhance the community’s infrastructure and make it a more attractive place for visitors. It can even increase property values in the surrounding area.

  7. Providing a Safe, Structured Environment: It offers a safer alternative to riding on streets or in areas where vehicles and other hazards might be present. It also allows riders to practice their skills without the risk of traffic.

  8. Environmental Benefits: Many pump tracks are built using sustainable materials, and they can be designed to minimize environmental impact. Additionally, they can be incorporated into green spaces, contributing to local environmental efforts.

  9. Cost-Effective Facility: Compared to some other recreational infrastructure (e.g., sports fields or playgrounds), pump tracks can be relatively affordable to build and maintain, especially when community members volunteer their time or resources.

  10. Attracting Visitors and Events: A well-designed pump track can attract cyclists and enthusiasts from outside the area, bringing in tourism and helping to support local businesses.

We’re Changing The Game.
