The Aberdeen Area Chamber of Commerce’s Partners in Community Pride Committee will be the local point of contact, working closely with the Better Block team to guide the planning and project processes.The purpose of The Better Block is to revitalize a single commercial block within a city, converting it in to a neighborhood destination for people of all ages. The Better Block was developed to show how the block could be revived to improve area safety, health and economics.
The Community Kickoff for the Better Block project will be at the K.O. Lee Aberdeen Public Library on Thursday, November 30th at 6:30 pm. This kickoff is free and open to the public. Input is needed from community members on what should be done at the project site and how it should look. After the kickoff, there will be several months of planning, with the project dates set for May 11 and 12, 2018. Representative from The Better Block Foundation and the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation will be facilitating the kickoff, sharing the project manual, explaining roles and timelines, and more.
