Shoplifting creates a big burden on retailers. In order to help fight shoplifting, the Aberdeen Police Department, Runnings and the Aberdeen Area Chamber of Commerce teamed up in January, 2016, to develop the Retail Coalition. The purpose is to prevent losses from theft through sharing information about known shoplifters, shoplifting trends and best practices. In addition, the coalition will share ideas on loss prevention.
What works and what doesn't? Are there ways to modify what we do to make it more successful? Some of the area the coalition aims to address are:
How and when to involve police officers
What information to obtain for best chance of conviction
Specific techniques for confrontation and to monitor activity
Other areas of loss prevention such as employee theft
Anyone is welcome to attend these meetings. They are held the second Wednesday of each month at 10:30 am in the Community Room at the Aberdeen Public Safety Building (Police Department).
